weight loss journey.
Fans of Tammy, the star of 1000-Lb Sisters on TLC, are ‘blown away’ after she shared a huge milestone in her weight loss. The show followed Tammy and her sister Amy as they tried to lose weight together.
At one point, Tammy needed a walker and wheelchair to move around and used an oxygen tube to help with breathing. Her mental health also suffered; she opened up about it on TikTok back in February.
Her path to losing weight has been tough. She went through rehab several times for food addiction and even gained 15 pounds during one stay. In July 2023, she faced the sad loss of her husband Caleb Willingham at just 40 years old.
Despite all these challenges, Tammy kept going and eventually lost enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery that would help her continue shedding pounds.
In the October 15 episode of 1,000-Lb Sisters, viewers see Tammy going for a weigh-in with Dr. Eric Smith, her bariatric surgeon.
“The last time I saw Dr. Smith was about nine months ago when I was around420 lbs,” she said nervously. “He told me I had to lose100 lbs before my next visit.”
But there was no need for worry! It turns out that Tammy now weighs only303.8 lbs – which is less than half what she used to weigh!
Dr Smith called this change ‘unbelievable,’ saying: “Tammy has shown real commitment by making lasting lifestyle changes that will help maximize the benefits fromher surgery.”
“I’ve stressed how important it is to make small daily changes so that not only does she keep improving but also achieves long-term success,” he added.
The next step for Tammy is skin removal surgery because loose skin is affecting how well she can live day-to-day; he wants this done ‘sooner rather than later.’
Fans have rushedto Instagram praisingher efforts! One wrote: “She has blown me away!! This shows you should never give up! Before,Tammy had such a bad attitude but look at her now! So proud ofher honestyand struggles! Go girl!”
Another fan commented: “I knew someone as strong-willed asher could do it!! Great job,Tammy! And kudos tothe doctors who never gave up!!!”
